As an old English folkloric figure with association to nature and green, I've seen some people theorize that Robin Hood has origins in fairy lore and mythology.
For instance, some modern neopaganism links him with the "Green Man" figure of nature and rebirth. But I think we can safely conclude that Robin Hood's origins are shockingly mundane.
He's not a forgotten spirit or a fairy trickster, and sometimes a green tunic is just a green tunic.
